Melouria was originally a four-piece German band that emerged from the tenth Popstars season.

Band history

Under the motto "Popstars goes Ibiza" started ProSieben the tenth season of the talent show Popstars . This time the search was started again with male and female participants. The jury was made up of the former winners Lucy Diakovska ( No Angels , 2000), Ross Antony ( Bro'Sis , 2001) and Senna Guemmour ( Monrose , 2006) as well as Detlef Soost , who had already judged the participants in the previous seasons.

In the final on September 20, 2012, eight candidates then competed against each other. In four rounds, one person made it into the band while another was eliminated. At around 10:35 p.m. Melouria first appeared as a full band with their winning song.

The band members could choose from three band names “Mixtype”, “Softrebel” or “Melouria”, all three of which were given by the management. In later interviews, the band stated that they chose the band name "Melouria" because the name was a mixture of the word "Melodie" and the song Euphoria by Loreen , which accompanied and shaped the band during the workshop on Ibiza.

Melouria was the first pop stars winning band to produce only a single and no album for the finale. The first single How Do You Do! 2012 is a cover song, the original is by Roxette and has been supplemented with rap interludes. The song went online on some download portals from September 21, 2012, and was released on CD on September 28, 2012. The single did not make it into the top 20 of the German single charts and only achieved a one-week chart stay.

After the finale, the band members moved into a loft in the Hotel Penta in Berlin, where they received additional dance lessons, vocal coaching and songwriting sessions, which were published in a band blog on MyVideo .

On November 20, 2012, the video premiere of their second single Miracle took place, which was released as a download on November 30. The song was written by Jenson Vaughan. The band only had a small budget of EUR 2,000 available for the music video. Miracle missed the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In November 2012, Melouria appeared in the opening act for Daniel Schuhmacher and accompanied Detlef D! Soost on his "D! S Family & Friends Tour".

On April 6, 2013, Cem Özdemir announced his departure from the group on his Facebook profile after internal disputes that arose after an autograph session in the Spandauer Arcaden in Berlin. Two weeks later it was announced in a press release that Özdemir was taking a break from Melouria for health reasons and that the band wanted to continue working as a trio.

Shortly after Özdemir left, the rest of the band decided to go their separate ways. On May 1, 2013, Stephanie Graf announced the breakup of the band.

Band members

  • Alessio Intemperante (* 1991) joined the band in the first decision of the final with the overground song Schick mir 'nen Engel .
  • Stephanie “Steffi” Graf (born November 21, 1992) convinced the jury with an unplugged version of the David Guetta song Titanium and thus made it into the band as the second member. After the band broke up, Graf started a duo called Pro2Type with Alessandro Ruotolo, also a pop star candidate of the tenth season . In September 2014 she released the song Prototype as Evy .
  • Alexander "Alex" Babacan (born June 7, 1989) succeeded in the fight of the last four to win the final jury decision with the song With a Little Help from My Friends by the Beatles . In 2017 he took part in the seventh season of the singing casting show The Voice of Germany and was eliminated in the "Battle Round".
  • Cem Özdemir (* 1992) was elected fourth and last member of the band by audience voting. He convinced the callers with the final song How Do You Do! 2012 , so that the majority voted for him. Özdemir left the band a few weeks before the official breakup.
