Titanium is a song of the French DJs and producers David Guetta , which he , together with the Australian singer Sia Furler has recorded. The song was officially released on December 9, 2011 as the fourth single from Guetta's fifth studio album Nothing but the Beat . The song was released on August 5th as the first of three promo singles on the album. The song was produced by Guetta and the music producers Giorgio Tuinfort and Afrojack .

background

After Guetta became aware of Sia's music on the Internet, he selected the singer to participate on his new album. Before Sia recorded the song with Guetta, she sent a demo version to various artists, such as the American singer Mary J. Blige . The version with the vocal parts Blige appeared on the Internet before the release in July 2011 (so-called leak ). Guetta described this incident as "annoying" because originally "nobody should know about it" and he also "did not want to comment on it". Another recipient of the demo was the US singer Katy Perry , but she declined. According to Sia's manager Jonathan Daniel of Crush Management, Sia assumed that American R&B musician Alicia Keys would be the voice for Titanium . Guetta first considered getting more singers into the studio for the song, but Perry advised him to leave Sia on the song. Guetta ultimately followed suit. As Sia revealed in an interview with " National Public Radio ", Guetta had her about the fact that she would be heard on the album:

“And then Mary J. Blige sang it. And then he took her voice off the song and added my vocals back in, my demo vocals, without asking, and released the whole thing. And I didn't even know it was going to happen and I was really upset because I had just pulled out, I was trying to be a pop songwriter, not an artist. "

- Sia :

In an interview with co-producer Afrojack , he said that shortly before the release, Guetta offered to name him as a contributing artist. Afrojack turned down the suggestion as Titanium would not match his current style. He added that he would view this statement as naive and arrogant today and present it as a negative example to any producer.

reception

criticism

Some critics refer to the song as one of the album's lead titles. Dallas Voice's Rich Lopez wrote that "the collaborative lyrics take this song to a higher level than any other song on the album." The music magazine Billboard described the song as Guetta's strangest and most epic song. The critic Joe Copplestone of the online magazine PopMatters found that “the songs on the album Nothing but the beat like Titanium and Night of Your Life relive the strength of Guetta's previous collaborations with American singer Kelly Rowland with When Love Takes Over and Commander would let ”. Furthermore, the initial guitar riff has a strong resemblance to the beginning of Every Breath You Take by the group The Police .

Titanium became a worldwide success. When the song was released as a promo single, the song reached top 10 positions in various countries.
