7 is the seventh studio album by French DJ and producer David Guetta . It was released worldwide on September 14, 2018 via "What a Music" and "Parlophone" as well as the major label " Warner Music ". The album consists of two CDs. While the first disc is the more commercial one and only contains vocal tracks, CD2 is a mixtape of his side project Jack Back, which was released on September 6, 2018. This is characterized by electronic music and contains almost no features. Collaborations for the studio album took place with Jason Derulo , Martin Garrix , J Balvin and Anne-Marie , among others .

First announcements
Already on January 27, 2017 Guetta commented on his upcoming studio album. It was a live interview on Facebook with Final Kid, which was broadcast on Facebook, in which he said that his upcoming album would be less melodic and that he would rather rely on computer-generated sound. In addition, he would keep most of the included songs covered for now. At the same time, he gave first information about his upcoming singles.
In June 2017, Guetta focused for the first time on the first output from 7 . This happened with the upcoming single release of the song 2U , which was created in collaboration with the American singer Justin Bieber . After the song premiered on several social media networks on June 5, 2017 , the title, collaboration and release date were announced there. In the wake of the single release, Guetta gave an interview with MTV's Lucas Fothergill on June 8, 2017 , in which he said he had been working on 7 for over a year by then , but intended to give himself more time . He also said that he really wanted to release some of the new music and saw this as the beginning of a new section. This new section would start with 2U .
First releases and links to the album
In the last week of September 2017, he said in an interview at the iHeartRadio Festival that “there are a lot of new songs on the horizon”. In the coming week he would make the final decisions about his upcoming single. He also announced that 2U would definitely be part of his upcoming album, which is almost finished.
On October 27, 2017, the release of the song Dirty Sexy Money was announced. It was a collaboration with the Dutch DJ and producer Afrojack , with whom he had been working regularly since 2010, singer Charli XCX , rapper French Montana and Skrillex, who worked as a co-producer . He left it open whether this track would also be part of the studio album.
In an interview posted by Jack Hardwick on the Daily Star on November 17, 2017 , he said that work on his upcoming studio album was in full swing and that he would see a release the following year as realistic. He also said that the style of the tracklist would be based on the most recently released singles.
Similar to Dirty Sexy Money , the song So Far Away , which premiered at Tomorrowland 2017 , was released as a single on December 2, 2017, which was not associated with a long player. The track was produced in collaboration with the Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix . The musicians already worked together on the songs Blue Flames (unreleased) and Clap Your Hands (Garrix only given in the credits). Jamie Scott and Romy Dya appeared as guest singers, while the female guest part was originally sung by British singer Ellie Goulding . On January 28, 2018, David Guetta confirmed his next collaboration with Martin Garrix. The Dutch producer Thijs Westerbroek alias Brooks and singer-songwriter Talay Riley also took part. The song is said to be called Like I Do and to be more EDM-heavy than Garrix and his predecessor. The release was announced for the following month via Garrix record label "STMPD RCRDS". During his live appearance at Ultra Korea , the Frenchman played three previously unheard productions. On September 14, 2018, the long player was finally released under the title 7 with a selection of previously published songs as well as previously unplayed songs. Several different studios were used for the mixing. The producer duo Daddy's Groove, who use the Tribe Studio in Naples, was responsible for the majority of the songs. They also took care of the mastering. They already took on this job in previous years and on previous albums. Brooks also mastered the song Like I Do at Muziekfabriek Studios in the Netherlands and Serban Ghenea mastered a large part of the songs at MixStar Studios in Virginia Beach . The vocal recordings for a single song sometimes took place in different studios, depending on the featuring artist.
His two children assisted him in choosing the songs that would make it onto the album, as he announced at the long player's launch party. "The children are the future!" He said. "I always think about the future and am not too interested in the opinions of people my age."

Naming
Basically, the title reflects the number of studio albums he has released, including this album. In an interview with the US daily newspaper " USA Today " However, he said that the number would also have a number of other meanings for him:

Single releases
2U
The song 2U was released on June 9, 2017 as the first single from the album. The song is a collaboration with the Canadian singer Justin Bieber . The producers Poo Bear and Cesqeaux were also involved in the creation of the song .
About the creation, Guetta said that he had been in contact with Poo Bear for some time, but that Bieber only joined the collaboration later, for which Poo Bear appears responsible:
“We [Poo Bear and I] had worked together for years writing a lot of songs together and then he surprised me by playing Justin one of our demos without letting me know. And then one day he said, 'David, read this email, I have a surprise for you.' 'I said' okayyyy 'and he actually asked Justin if he'd like to record the song. It was the greatest surprise ever. '"
After the song enjoyed great popularity in advance on social media platforms, the song was released. In a press release, Guetta revealed:

Dirty Sexy Money is the second pre-release single of 7. The Dutch DJ and producer Afrojack as well as the Swedish singer Charli XCX and the French rapper French Montana are active as guest musicians . The publication took place on "Parlophone" and "What a Music". The American trap and dubstep producer Skrillex assisted as producer .
The song premiered during Guetta's performance at ADE when Afrojack came on stage with him at the beginning of the song. The studio version was first introduced on Zane Lowe's “Beat 1” radio show. Lowe contacted Guetta and Charli XCX via Facetime , whereupon the Frenchman described the song as "the recording I've wanted to make my whole life". Charli XCX said about the admission process:
“I was in LA and actually worked on several of David's songs in the studio. We had already finished some things and then I heard this song and I was immediately drawn to the song. I wrote with Noonie Bao and AG Cook and this song caught me right away. David came down to the studio and somehow the song made us feel connected. It triggered such a party feeling in me. "
The music video was released on December 14, 2017 directed by Charli XCX and Sarah McColgan. In the video you can see Guetta as an escape driver, Charli XCX as the boss, Afrojack as a back-strengthener and French Montana as an explosives expert. The masked characters are led by Charli XCX and rob a man's safe.
Dirty Sexy Money could not follow up on the success of its predecessor, but nevertheless moved up into the upper half of the chart in over 11 countries and has around 360,000 units sold.

So far away
The song So Far Away was released on December 1, 2018 as the third release of the studio album. The track was produced in collaboration with the Dutch musician Martin Garrix after an unreleased collaboration and co-production from Garrix 'side. So Far Away contains vocals from singer-songwriter Jamie Scott and singer Romy Dya. The style of the song can be classified in the field of future bass, which stylistically connects to the two previous commercial Garrix singles.
Originally, the female part was to be taken over by the British singer Ellie Goulding , who was considered a dream feature for Garrix. However, the song premiered at Tomorrowland 2017 without the approval of her management and should definitely be released as a single, while Goulding wanted to continue to focus on her studio album. Management requested the temporary closure of the single, whereupon Guetta and Garrix removed their part from the song. The whole process was made public on Twitter. Mad Love
With the fourth single Mad Love , Guetta released a dancehall song on February 16, 2018. This was developed in collaboration with rapper Sean Paul and singer Becky G . In an interview with Contactmusic in June 2017, Paul said that he was currently working on a song with the Colombian singer Shakira . The song was titled Mad Love and was about “being crazy and having love, it's sexy. But actually it's not about love at all, but much more about sexiness itself ”. In August 2017, he came back to the song in an interview with " Billboard " and stated that the song should originally be called Temple .
But the collaboration with Shakira failed, which is why Sean Paul was forced to look for a new singer for the song. The reason given was a legal problem. Originally, Rita Ora was contacted as a replacement, but she would have been too busy, as Paul announced in an interview with the Daily Star. He said several singers “tried the song. Your Love was released on June 14, 2018 as the seventh single out of 7 . The track premiered at Ultra Korea and only a short time later it was announced via social media as a collaboration with Showtek and singer Jake Reese. The track was heavily inspired by singer Robin S.'s Show Me Love from 1990, but does not contain any direct samples. In the charts, the song proved to be less strong than its predecessors and only reached a position in the lower midfield in a few Central European countries.
Don't leave me alone
With Don't Leave Me Alone , Guetta released a collaboration with the British singer Anne-Marie on July 27, 2018 , who celebrated worldwide success with several songs including Friends at the time and in 2002 . Noonie Bao, Sarah Aarons and producer Lotus IV also participated in the pop song. Before it became part of studio album 7 , it was also included on the digital re-release of Anne-Marie's studio album Speak Your Mind .

An official lyric video for the song was released on August 23, 2018. This is fully animated and shows the lines of text in front of a tropical background. Say My Name was originally supposed to be released as a single between early and mid-July 2018. At that time, the female vocal part was taken over by the singer Demi Lovato .
