Headlights

Headlights was an American pop band from Champaign, Illinois .

history

The starting point for Headlights was the band Absinthe Blind in which all three later members of Headlights played together. In 2003 Absinthe Blind disbanded. Brett Sanderson and Erin Fein briefly formed the guitarless duo Orphans. Tristan Wright, for his part, toured with the American post-rock band Maserati . After returning to Champaign, he joined the band. In spring 2004, the three headlights founded. In the same year the first EP enemies was recorded and self-published as a limited tour-only version. On their first tour, Headlights played together with Mono and The Appleseed Cast . The band made a name for themselves through intensive touring and in 2005 attracted the attention of the American label Polyvinyl Records (including Of Montreal , Rainer Maria ). In the same year enemies was published again as an unlimited label release. 2006 was probably the most successful but also the busiest year for Headlights. In early 2006 they released a split 7 " with Most Serene Republic , in August their first album Kill Them With Kindness came out and on the side they played 161 gigs around the world.

In January 2012, Brett Sanderson announced the breakup of the band.

style

Headlights aptly describe their music as "Indiepop with a shoegazy aftertaste" (German: "Indiepop with a shoegazy aftertaste"). On enemies , the shoegazy element was still the focus of their music and was combined with a love of songwriting detail. On the album Kill Them With Kindness the indie pop aspect is added. Hyper-melodic pop moments meet post- rock shoega walls and combine to create a very unique sound. Live headlights convince with an almost rock-like interpretation of their songs.
