Noonie Bao (2013)

Noonie Bao (born August 9, 1987 in Stockholm ; actually Jonnali Mikaela Parmenius ) is a Swedish singer , songwriter and music producer .

Live and act

Noonie Bao was born as Jonnali Mikaela Parmenius in Stockholm and grew up in a suburb. She started singing as a child and was inspired by her musical parents. At the age of twelve she started writing her own songs, but did so in secret for the first two years, as she was embarrassed and uncomfortable singing about her feelings. She attended a music school , where she was the " black sheep ". A friend gave her the fictitious nickname Noonie Bao when she was 15 , which would later become her stage name. As a teenager she finished the music high school and then briefly attended the Royal College of Music in Stockholm . She left the college, which she did not like, but quickly returned at the age of 16 and moved to live with a friend in St. Gallen , Switzerland . There she recorded her first songs with a dictaphone in a piano shop . She also began taking singing lessons and later recorded her own songs in a recording studio in a friend's attic , where she came into contact with song production for the first time. She later worked in a recording studio in Paris .

After two years Noonie Bao returned to Stockholm, where she signed a contract as a songwriter with the music label EMI at the age of 18 . She also founded her own recording company called 2many Freckles . Among other things, she wrote songs for Adiam Dymott , Clean Bandit , Frederic Sioen and Tove Styrke , which she also produced. The album Tove Styrke by Tove Styrke, which Noonie Bao worked on and also produced some songs, was released in November 2010 and was in the Swedish charts for 35 weeks and reached number 10. In 2011 the Belgian band Das Pop became aware of a song by Noonie Bao and released the song Fair Weather Friends on their album The Game . Noonie Bao was also backing vocal for the song . As a result, she was on tour with the band in Belgium and Europe . The album The Game reached number 13 in the Belgian charts ( Vl ) and stayed in the charts for 25 weeks.

On January 27, 2012, Noonie Bao released her debut single About to Tell . On October 31, 2012 she released her debut album I Am Noonie Bao on the Swedish label Hybris , after working on it for five years. In autumn and winter 2012 she went on tour in Sweden.

At the beginning of November 2012, Noonie Bao was the first musician to receive a new scholarship at the Swedish Music Publishers Prize 2012 , which aims to support musicians at the beginning of their careers. This was endowed with 25,000 crowns . In December 2012 Noonie Bao was nominated in the category Best Newcomer for the Swedish Grammis Music Award, but had to admit defeat to Icona Pop at the award ceremony on February 20, 2013 . In February 2013 she also took part in the Norwegian music festival by: Larm in Oslo .

Noonie Bao had her greatest success so far as a guest musician with the song I Could Be the One by Avicii and Nicky Romero . She was involved both as a songwriter and singer of the song. The track achieved high chart positions in many countries. In Great Britain , on February 17, 2013, it jumped to number 1 in the singles charts. There the song could only last a week.

music

Noonie Bao was inspired by Swedish folk music , contemporary R&B , Van Morrison , Aaliyah and Enya . Their music is often compared to that of Robyn , Lykke Li , Tove Styrke and Kate Bush .
