background information

Happy Now was first mentioned on August 10, 2017 in an interview with US American Billboard magazine . During that interview, Zedd presented some unreleased pieces that he was working on at the time. He also played Happy Now , which at that time still had the working title "Are You Happy Now". The first version of the piece was not sung by Duhé, but by the Norwegian singer Sigrid .

Happy Now premiered on July 3, 2018 during the Zedd in the Park Festival in Los Angeles . Duhé and Zedd performed live together. A day later Duhé uploaded a picture of the performance on her Instagram profile, in connection with the statement “and the man of the hour last night. I told ya a big surprise is comin ?? "( English " last The man of the hour "night. I told you that there will be a big surprise.). Again, one day later, she invited a video of the performance high, with the words "not gonna lie my heart is pretty full" ( English "I will not lie, my heart is pretty full."). In the days leading up to the single's release, Duhé uploaded new press photos with Zedd almost every day.

content

The lyrics to Happy Now are in English; Translated into German, the title means "now happy". The music and the lyrics were written jointly by Sarah Aarons, Noonie Bao, Linus Wiklund and Zedd. Musically, the song moves in the area of dance pop . The tempo is 88 beats per minute . In terms of content, Happy Now deals with a breakup in which Duhé was abandoned by her ex-boyfriend and which questions whether he is happy with what he has done.

The song is built on two stanzas (four lines each), a bridge , a chorus and an outro . The song begins with the chorus followed by the first verse. The first verse is followed by a bridge and again the chorus. The same process occurs with the second stanza. After the third refrain the lines “You're the only one who can. You're the only, you're the only. "( English " You are the only one who can do that. You are the only one, the only one. ") As a kind of" post-chorus "before the song with the outro ends. The singing of the song comes exclusively from Elley Duhé, Zedd can only be heard in the background during the outro.

"You're a world away.
Somewhere in the crowd.
In a foreign place.
Are you happy now?

There's nothing left to say.
So I shut my mouth.
So won't you tell me, babe.
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now? "

- Refrain, original excerpt

“You are a world away.
Somewhere in the crowd.
In a strange place.
Are you happy now?

Nothing left to say.
So I keep my mouth shut
So why don't you tell me darling
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?"

- Refrain, translation

Music video

First of all, a poetry video premiered on July 18, 2018. This is not a conventional music video, but a lyric video. The video begins with exterior shots and later with interior shots of an apartment after a night of partying. In the next scene, the owner (Duhé) wakes up and immediately starts tidying up the apartment while still in her sleepwear. While tidying up she starts to dance again and again, after a short time she only moves around the apartment dancing and neglects tidying up. At the end of the video, she goes outside. The video ends with Duhé, who looks into the distance. During the entire video - up to the last chorus - the corresponding lines of text are always displayed in the foreground in yellow and white letters. As with the lyric video for The Middle , Chris Lowery and Dillon O'Neal of WE WRK WKNDS again directed. To date, the music video has over 45 million views on YouTube (as of October 2019).

On August 9, 2018, the first regular music video entitled "Official Tour Edit" was released. As the title suggests, the video shows excerpts from Zedd's tour life. On the one hand, scenes from Zedd's promo and live appearances can be seen, on the other hand, it shows private scenes from life outside of touring life. During the public relations scenes, Zedd can be seen performing at the Parookaville ( Weeze , Germany) and the Music Power Explosion ( Breslau , Poland ). In another live performance, Zedd appears together with Duhé. He can also be seen at promotional appearances such as on the Swiss radio station Capital FM or a photo shoot. Aside from everyday touring, you can see Zedd with his friends on a day on the water. You'll spend time on a yacht , ride a speedboat and jet ski , surf, or hit golf balls into the water. You can also see a scene of Zedd and his friends bowling . In some scenes you can see Zedd alone in his private jet , in front of the Moscow Kremlin or the Benrath high school . The video ends with Zedd driving off on a jet ski. Directed by Yoder. To date, the music video has over 2.8 million views on YouTube (as of October 2019).

On August 23, 2018, the second regular music video was released, which is the actual "official music video". Two men and women spend their time in a holiday apartment. During dinner together, a woman begins to languish for one of the two men , what the other belches. While dancing, the couple comes closer to each other before they go into the bedroom after kissing. The two are always under observation of the opponent. The next day she serves everyone a vodka, adding an unknown substance to the drinks beforehand. The woman who has come closer to the man and the second man collapse first at the swimming pool, the man himself escapes from the pool and collapses in a remote location on the side of the road. In an inserted scene, it can be seen that the jealous woman makes a phone call shortly before the action. After he has fled, she follows him. Shortly after he collapsed on the roadside, the alarmed by the woman meets patrol car one. At first the police want to help the man, but when they discover the jealous woman, she accuses the man of having done this to her. The police then handcuff him and put him in the back of the car. The video ends with her smiling mischievously. Directed by Yoder. To date, the music video has over 76 million views on YouTube (as of October 2019).
