Stay the Night ( English for "stay") is a song of the German - Russian EDM - musician Zedd , in cooperation with the US American singer and Paramore -Frontfrau Hayley Williams . The track is the fifth single from his debut album Clarity .
Creation and artwork
The song was written by Benjamin Eli Hanna, Carah Faye, Hayley Williams and Anton Zaslavski (Zedd), the latter also produced the single. The song was released under the Interscope Records music label . On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - a visually edited picture of the upper body of Hayley Williams can be seen.
Publication and promotion
On September 4, 2013, a week before the publication of Stay the Night , Zedd published a teaser of the piece on his Vevo channel. The single was first released on September 10, 2013 as a download in the United States. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the releases followed a month later on October 14, 2013. Stay the Night is available as a single track, maxi-single and as an EP . In addition to Stay the Night , the various maxi singles and EPs also contain other remix versions that differ in the number and selection of B-sides .
At the end of January 2014 it was announced that Zedd was the MTV “Push Act” of the month of February. This meant that it was featured in all of MTV's commercials for the entire month, and that applied to all MTV stations worldwide. Parts of the music video for Stay the Night were shown during the presentation . In Germany, Austria and Switzerland in particular, the song gained attention when it was used in a Clipfish commercial at the beginning of 2014.

Music video
The music video for Stay the Night premiered on September 23, 2013 on Zedd's YouTube account. The music video can be divided into the following three storylines: On the one hand there are scenes in which Zedd plays on a piano . You can also see scenes from Williams, who sings the song and sometimes dances to it. The third scene shows a couple dancing. The total length of the video is 3:39 minutes. Directed by Daniel Cloud Campos. To date, the music video has over 152 million clicks on YouTube (as of March 2016).

Reviews
Mike Wass from the website Idolator called the song “a rising house anthem with massive crossover potential” and praised the singer's “brilliant” selection: “Hayley Williams puts her rock inclinations to one side ... and it gives the song a certain credibility outside of it of the constantly growing EDM market. "
James Shotwell of the entertainment news blog Under the Gun Review gave a mixed review of Stay the Night . He praised that the piece was "intended for dance club glory" and that it was "suitable" for contemporary hit radio . On the other hand, Shotwell criticizes the "lack of clarity".
The music blog Critic of Music awarded the grade A-. They are of the opinion that the piece suffers from the comparison to the previous single Clarity , especially in the weakness of the verses. As highlights, they emphasize the “vocal diversity” of Williams and the “excellent” radio-friendly dance beats.

Furthermore, Stay the Night reached number one in the US dance club charts as the third single after Spectrum and Clarity . The single was placed in the annual single charts of 2014 at position 99 in Germany and at position 94 in the United States.
For Zedd as an interpreter this is already the third chart success in Germany, as well as the second in Austria, the United Kingdom and the United States and the first chart success in Switzerland. It's his first top 10 win in the UK.
