Zedd (born September 2, 1989 in Saratow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union , bourgeois Anton Zaslavski , Russian Антон Заславский ; scientific transliteration Anton Zaslavskij ) is a Russian - German music producer and DJ of electro house and pop . Zedd is under contract with the labels Interscope Records , OWSLA and Dim Mak Records. He had the greatest success so far with his single Clarity , which reached the top ten in the US charts and was awarded a Grammy .

biography

Life

Zedd was born in the Russian part of the Soviet Union . In September 1992 his Russian-Jewish family emigrated to Germany . He grew up as the son of two music teachers for piano, singing and guitar in the Rhineland-Palatinate Kaiserslautern in the Dansenberg district . Only Russian was spoken at home. In Kaiserslautern he attended high school on the Rittersberg . He started playing the piano at the age of four. With a jazz piece by Chick Corea , he took part in the youth music competition as a primary school student . From 2002 he played drums together with his brother Arkadi Zaslavski and Jochen Müller in the metal / rock band Dioramic on the Lifeforce Records label . In 2009 Justice's album "†" sparked his interest in electronic music. In 2012, Zedd moved to the United States , where he built his career.

From late 2014 to May 2015, he was in a committed relationship with US singer Selena Gomez .

Beginnings as a producer

On June 14, 2011, he released his single Dovregubben . This went straight to number one on the Beatport Electro House Charts.

In 2012, he and Max Martin produced the song Beauty and a Beat on Bieber's album Believe for Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj , which reached the Billboard Hot 100 among others . He also produced I Don't Like You by Eva Simons , the song reached number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs .

2012–2013: album Clarity and first chart successes

On October 2, 2012, he released his first studio album Clarity . It entered the US album charts at number 38 , but was only there for a week. The first single was Shave It Up . It was published on November 8, 2011, but could not reach any chart positions.

The second release was Spectrum . The song recorded Zedd together with the American musician Matthew Koma . At first it did not reach any charts, but after the song was used as a promotional song on the German television station ProSieben , it entered the top 100 in Germany, Austria and Japan. The third single from the album is titled Stache . The song only appeared digitally as a download and therefore did not reach any chart positions. Shortly after its release, a version of the song appeared, which was sung by the American singer Lady Gaga .

Clarity is the title of the fourth single from the album of the same name. The song was released on February 1, 2013 and contains vocals from Foxes . On February 16, it entered the British charts at number 34, where it reached its highest position at number 29. Almost two months later the song entered the US charts and climbed to number 8. James Maslow, the singer of Big Time Rush , covered this song and posted it on his YouTube channel. Clarity wasnamed Best Dance Recording of the Yearat the 2014 Grammy Awards . In addition, Zedd received the ASCAP and European Border Breakers Award as well as four other nominationsfor the single. A year later, Zedd released another version of the song in collaboration with the Danish singer Medina .

The song Codec from his album Clarity was used as the soundtrack for The Incredibles .

In the fall of 2013 he released the single Stay the Night , which he recorded with the American singer Hayley Williams , best known as the singer of the alternative rock band Paramore . The track hit the charts in every country, including the top 10 in Belgium, Ireland, Poland and the United Kingdom. In Australia, Sweden and the UK, the duo went platinum for over one million sales and received the 2014 MTV Video Music Award in the Clubland category. Remixes followed by DJs like Tiësto , DJ Snake and Nicky Romero . In January 2014, Zedd released the song Find You , which was used as the theme song for the film "Divergent", together with Matthew Koma and the Swedish soul-pop singer Miriam Bryant . 2017–2019: Various single releases

In January 2017, Zedd announced a collaboration with Alessia Cara , who at that time celebrated success with the song Scars to Your Beautiful . At the same time, he started planning a benefit concert on the occasion of Donald Trump's decision to ban people with a migration background from entering the USA. Work as a composer and remixer

Trivia

In August 2017, Zedd played at a poker tournament as part of the PokerStars Championship in Barcelona and finished third out of 226 players at the event with a buy-in of EUR 2,150. For this achievement he received prize money of 44,000 euros.
