Hayley Nichole Williams (born December 27, 1988 in Meridian , Mississippi ) is an American singer-songwriter and keyboardist . She is the front woman of the alternative rock band Paramore . She is also the managing director of her company "goodDYEyoung"

Life

Hayley Nichole Williams is the daughter of Joey and Cristi Williams and was born on December 27, 1988 in Meridian, Mississippi. Williams has two younger half-sisters, McKayla and Erica.

After their parents' divorce, Williams moved with her mother to Franklin, Tennessee , where she met her future bandmates Josh and Zac Farro at school. Shortly after moving, she began taking singing lessons with Brett Manning. During her school days, Williams was a member of the local funk band The Factory , in which Jeremy Davis, who later became the bass player for Paramore , played.

Career

Before Paramore was founded, Williams and the band's future bassist, Jeremy Davis, worked in a funk band called The Factory , which mostly played cover songs. In 2004 Paramore was officially founded by Hayley Williams (vocals), Josh Farro (guitar), Zac Farro (drums) and Jeremy Davis (bass); The Farro brothers and Davis had previously made music together, but at that time they had not yet found a member who could take over the vocal part.

The group got their record deal through singer Williams, who had already been signed by Atlantic Records in 2003. The label originally planned to market her as a pop musician , but she didn't approve of that; she wanted to be part of a band and therefore resisted this plan. Atlantic Records ultimately decided to give in to their wishes, but the label's marketing department decided that a smaller record label would be better for the group's image. Eventually, one of Atlantic Records' sub-labels, Fueled by Ramen, was selected to release Paramore's music . In April 2005, the entire band signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records and Fueled by Ramen after the latter's CEO John Janick watched the group perform a few times. In the same year the first album All We Know Is Falling was released . Riot followed in 2007 ! , Brand New Eyes in 2009 and in 2013, the first album without founding members Josh and Zac Farro, Paramore .

In the 2008 video game Guitar Hero: World Tour , Williams is an unlockable and playable character; the Paramore song Misery Business is also included at stake.

In 2009 Williams released a solo song called Teenagers , which was featured on the soundtrack of Jennifer's Body - Guys To Your Taste . In the music video Kiss Me by the band New Found Glory , Williams can also be seen alongside her bandmates. In 2010 she promised the rapper BoB to appear on his single Airplanes . The song became a respectable success and established her successfully in the music business.

In 2010 the brothers Josh and Zac Farro left the band. The different attitudes to the Christian faith and their community were reasons that should have led to the withdrawal. Williams, who is a devout Christian herself, was often critical of this. According to the statements of the Farro brothers, Williams' attitude to this has changed significantly over the years. Further reasons for leaving the band are so far controversial; Williams' alleged solo career was often mentioned. “There are always rumors and questions in interviews, and fans that have their own opinion of it, but my priority will always be Paramore. (...) You can never say never in your life in general, but again, I know where my heart is. And it's this band. I can't imagine wanting to do anything else. " (“There will always be rumors and questions in interviews and fans who have their own opinion about it, but Paramore will always be my priority. (…) In life you can never say never, but I know where I belong / who my heart belongs. I belong to this band. I can't imagine wanting anything else. ") She denied such a career after her collaborations with BoB in 2010 and with Zedd in 2013 after Stay The Night ; she just wants to develop further and gain new experiences for the future with Paramore .

In 2015 Williams shot alongside a few other artists such as Ellie Goulding or Selena Gomez as well as u. a. also actress Jessica Alba as Crimson Curse the music video for Taylor Swift's Bad Blood . Together with her bandmate Taylor York , she also won the Best Rock Song award at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for Ain't It Fun , which they wrote together for the 2013 album Paramore .

In 2016 she founded the hair color label “goodDYEyoung” together with her stylist and now best friend Brian O'Connor.

On January 22nd, 2020 she released the first single Simmer from her solo project "Petals For Armor".

Private life

She was with her bandmate Josh Farro for three years, who left Paramore in 2010 due to personal differences with his brother Zac. From 2008 she had a relationship with the guitarist Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory. On New Year's Eve 2014/2015, she announced via Twitter that she and Gilbert had been engaged since Christmas 2014. Williams and Gilbert were married in Tennessee on February 20, 2016. In July 2017, the couple separated again. In an interview with the New York Times in March 2020, Williams reported that she had an unhappy relationship with Gilbert and that she intended to withdraw from the music business for a time.

However, two members of her band finally left the band because they said they were too focused on Williams. According to the official statement by former band member Josh Farro, Paramore has become a "fabricated product of the label" with Williams at the center. Williams herself describes this day as "the worst of her life", as she says that the allegations are not only untrue, she also saw no possibility of an answer from her part without appearing immature.

Williams suffers from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, which temporarily led her to leave Paramore in mid-2015, which never really got publicized. In a February 2020 interview for Apple Music, she admitted having had suicidal thoughts. She therefore takes therapy lessons that are said to have inspired her, among other things, for her solo project "Petals For Armor".

Williams speaks out against the consumption of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.

Others

In 2007 she was voted number 2 in the “Sexiest Women in Rock” category according to a survey by the British music magazine Kerrang , and number 1 a year later. She was also voted number 1 in 2009, as well as in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. With the Kerrang! She won awards in 2012 in the Tweeter of the Year category .

In March 2013, Williams and MAC Cosmetics announced a make-up collection that was available for the US market in April 2013.

She also announced on her blog that she was working on her own hair colorant brand; this bears the name "goodDYEyoung" (as became known via Twitter in March 2016 ), which is to appear in the same year. For the first promotions via Instagram , Williams brought several friends on board, such as Josh Dun, drummer for the band Twenty One Pilots .

She has been part of the popular online show Kiss-Off since 2015 .
