background

Swift wrote Bad Blood about another unspecified female artist who, according to Swift, tried to sabotage one of her touring appearances by luring some dancers away. Most media, including Rolling Stone , Time , Billboard and The Washington Post, suspected that the unnamed artist was Katy Perry . The album version was written and produced by Swift, Max Martin and Shellback and has not yet received a Rappart. Bad Blood was instrumentally revised for the single release and Kendrick Lamar wrote new verses in rap form .

Musical and content

Bad Blood is written in G major and has a tempo of 88 beats per minute . Swift's vocal range ranges from E 3 to D 5 . Lyrically, the song describes the betrayal of a close friend and the subsequent reaction of the lyrical self .

"'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
' Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve them
You made a really deep cut
And, baby, now we've got bad blood
Hey "

- Refrain, original excerpt

"Because baby, now we have bad blood,
you know it was crazy love,
so look at what you did
because baby, now we have bad blood,
hey
now we have problems with each other
and I don't think we can solve them can
you have a pretty deep cut made,
And Baby, now we have bad blood,
Hey "

- Refrain, German translation

Reviews

While the album version of Bad Blood received average reviews, the critics in the remix version particularly praised Lamar's rap performances. HitFix's Katie Hasty criticizes Swift's “brat voice” on this song, as well as the “weak beats”. Joe McIndoe wrote that the song has "some good lyrical moments" but the hookline disappoints. George Seabrook of The Edge described the remix version as "wonderful" and praised the exchange of instruments compared to the original version. August Brown of the Los Angeles Times praised that "his (Lamar's) verses fit perfectly into the rework of the song." The Süddeutsche Zeitung simply described Bad Blood as a "cracker".
