reception

CountryMusicNews.de gives the album four out of five stars: “With her third album, Taylor has more pop preferences and shows that she is already an amazingly good songwriter. With this and with some strong hits from the new work, she will continue her global triumph without any problems. "

Laut.de gives the album three out of five points: “… Sometimes sad, often happy, but always pop, happily written by the 20-year-old herself. ... What a welcome difference to some of the hot air pressed on CD by teen starlets, written by an armada of external songwriters. Even if Taylor Swift doesn't reinvent the musical wheel with her own compositions, it rolls better than expected into the ear canals. "

Plattentests.de awards four out of ten points: “... Just as beautiful and successful minutes can be found in the lonely silence of the acoustic guitar of 'Never Grow Up', in the subliminal rumbling sadness of 'Innocent' and 'Last Kiss', a six-minute, dreamy one Ode to an ex… The problem with 'Speak Now' is, however, that too many songs are curious, vulgar and rarely more than nice radio pop. It would be a mockery to use words like country or folk even remotely on blunt pieces like ' The Story of Us ', 'Mine', 'Sparks Fly' or 'Long Live'. This is the kind of calculating chart music that Swift should finally give the breakthrough in Europe ... "
