Blank Space is a song by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift from her fifth studio album, released in 1989, in 1989 . It was written by Swift with Max Martin and Shellback . The song was released on November 10, 2014 as the second single on the album after Shake It Off . Musically, Blank Space is a minimalist electropop song that deals with the public's perception of Swift's relationships.
Blank Space was both commercially and critically successful, reaching first place on the American Billboard Hot 100 charts right after Shake It Off , making Taylor Swift the first woman in the 56-year history of the Hot 100 with two of her songs in a row first place was. Blank Space is a minimalist electro-pop song that some critics have compared to Lorde's songs. Blank Space received huge acclaim from music critics who praised the quality of the song and Swift's self-deprecation. PopMatters called the song possibly the best of Swift's career and a candidate for the best pop song of 2014 ("likely the best of Swift's career and easily a candidate for the best pop song of 2014"). Music video
Taylor Swift selected Joseph Kahn to direct the video. The shoot lasted three days and took place in two locations in Long Island . The video is partly inspired by the movie A Clockwork Orange . Swift's partner is played by model Sean O'Pry . The video was accidentally posted on Yahoo! on November 10, 2014. released. In July 2015, the video on YouTube cracked the one billion view mark, making it the second most-viewed of all time.
Taylor Swift sang the song for the first time live on television at the 2014 American Music Awards .

The song topped the Hot Digital Songs chart with 155,000 copies sold in its first week, making it the second song from the album and Swift's ninth overall at the top. Swift ranks third among the artists with the most digital number one hits along with rapper Eminem . Blank Space was # 1 on the Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks, the longest time for a Swift song. Thus, the song also holds the record for the longest period in which only women are at number one on the charts. As of May 2015, Blank Space had been purchased a total of 3.98 million times in the US.
