Shake It Off ( English for shake it off ) is a song by the American pop singer Taylor Swift , which was released in 2014 as the first single from the album in 1989 . It was released as a music download on August 18, 2014 and as a CD single in Germany on October 10, 2014 by the Universal Music Group .
Shake It Off was written by Swift, Max Martin, and Shellback . The accompanying music video was released the same day and has been viewed over two billion times on YouTube since then.
Swift presented Shake It Off live for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014 on August 24, 2014. She also performed the song live at the German Radio Prize 2014 on September 4, 2014 and at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on September 19, 2014.
Shake It Off received mostly positive reviews. The video, however, evoked a divided echo. Swift was accused of racism against African Americans because of the perceived stereotypical portrayal of twerking . However, this criticism was also contradicted.
Shake It Off debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of September 6, 2014 and became Swift's second number-one single in the United States . The song won the Favorite Song category at the 2015 People's Choice Awards and received nominations for Record of the Year , Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards .
Shake It Off was the title track of ProSieben - TV show The Big Surprise - Your most nightmare .

Cover versions and parodies
Ryan Adams recorded the song for his cover album, released in 2015, in 1989 .
The cover version of the song by The Hillywood Show (Hannah and Hilly Hindi) in 2015 attracted attention, which, in addition to a parody of the Swift music video, also pays homage to the popular television series Supernatural . The song was recorded by the band Twenty One Two and the text was slightly changed to fit the series. By May 2018, this music video had more than 16 million views on YouTube alone, including many leading actors from Supernatural, such as Jensen Ackles , Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins .
The video posted by the Dover Police Department in which police officer Jeff Davis sings to the song at the wheel of his police car also received a lot of media attention . The video has been viewed more than 42 million times on YouTube. The song was also used in the series The Middle .
