It is in the key of C major and the vocal range extends over octaves , between G 3 and E 5.

Music video

Portions of the music video were shot on Bethells Beach in New Zealand

As with the videos for Blank Space , Bad Blood and Wildest Dreams , Joseph Kahn also directed the music video for Out of the Woods. The video was shot in the mountains of Queenstown and on Bethells Beach in New Zealand. Filming was hampered for a week by a storm that toppled several trees. In the video, Taylor runs through a forest in front of a pack of wolves and then finds himself in various places that represent the four elements. At the end of the video the trees disappear and she comes to the beach.
