The Vancouver Sun is a Canadian daily newspaper in broadsheet format . It appears Monday through Saturday in Vancouver and is published by Pacific Newspaper Group Inc. , a subsidiary of the Postmedia Network media group . With 499,800 readers, The Vancouver Sun is British Columbia's most widely read newspaper after The Province . In 2001 the circulation averaged 203,390 copies.
The first edition appeared on February 12, 1912. The editorial office was initially on West Pender Street, in close proximity to the then competitor The Province . In 1924, Sun took over the Vancouver Daily World newspaper , which had run into financial difficulties. The building that housed Sun burned down in 1937 and the newspaper moved across the street to the World Building , where World had previously appeared. This has been renamed Sun Tower accordingly . In response to ever increasing production costs, Sun and Province merged to form Pacific Press in 1957 . In 1965 both newspapers moved to the Pacific Press Building. In 1997 the company moved to the Granville Square skyscraper .
The newspaper has been the main sponsor of the 10-kilometer Vancouver Sun Run since 1985 .
