Salambo
Salambo , original French title Salammbô , is a historical novel by Gustave Flaubert published in 1862 .
Based on historical events, the work describes the course of the mercenary uprising that took place after the defeat of Carthage in the First Punic War from 241 to around 238 BC. Broke out in North Africa. The title character Salammbô , the daughter of the Carthaginian general Hamilkar Barkas in the novel , is fictional.
Flaubert's novel, the exotic and drastic descriptions of which impressed the contemporary audience very much, was dramatized several times. a. in an unfinished opera by Mussorgsky .
