Arthur Schurig

Arthur Schurig (born April 24, 1870 in Dresden ; † November 16, 1929 ibid) was a German philologist , archaeologist , writer and translator of mainly French authors.

Life

Schurig was an officer from 1890 to 1906 and again from 1914 to 1918 . From 1906 to 1910 he studied literary history in Grenoble , Berlin and Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1910 on the subject of Young Heinse and his development up to 1774 . As a translator, he mainly transferred the works of Stendhal , Flaubert and Mérimée . He edited Leopold Mozart's travelogues and Constanze Mozart's letters and wrote a comprehensive Mozart biography. He was in correspondence with the writer Herbert Eulenberg . Most recently Schurig lived in Dresden, where he is also buried in the Tolkewitz urn grove .
