The MTV Video Music Awards 2010 presented by the music broadcaster MTV took place on September 12, 2010 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles . The 27th MTV Video Music Awards were hosted for the first time in 16 years by a woman, comedian Chelsea Handler .

Lady Gaga won most of the prizes that evening. She was nominated 13 times in eleven categories and won in eight categories. As promised, she then revealed the name of her 2011 album if she wins in the “Video of the Year” category. The studio album is called Born This Way , just like the first single of the same name .
