The 2000 MTV Video Music Awards were held on September 7, 2000 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City . This time the moderators were the brothers Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans .

The musical highlight of the show was the appearance of Britney Spears . She first sang a cover version of the Rolling Stones song (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction , then performed half a striptease and also sang Oops!… I Did It Again . Furthermore played * NSYNC three songs from her album No Strings Attached . Eminem began his performance with the song The Real Slim Shady , which started outside the Radio City Music Hall. He was accompanied by a hundred Eminem 'clones', all of whom wore a white shirt, baggy jeans and dyed blonde hair. He continued his performance in the hall and also sang The Way I Am .

There were also unusual performances by Christina Aguilera and Fred Durst , who sang their hit Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You) together. Fred Durst later stated in an interview that he did this for a nookie . As well as by Tim Commerford ( Rage Against the Machine ). He climbed a scaffold and refused to go back down. The reason for this strike was the lost award in the Best Rock Video category. Commerford was arrested and spent one night in prison.

At the end of the award ceremony there was a surprise from Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears , who came on stage hand in hand and thus refuted the rumors of a rivalry on both sides. They spoke briefly about the great evening and announced superstar Whitney Houston . Houston sang a short a cappella version of I Will Always Love You and received a standing ovation for it. She then gave Eminem the Moonman Video of the Year together with husband Bobby Brown .
