MTV Video Music Awards / Best Visual Effects
The MTV Video Music Award for Best Visual Effects is one of the technical categories. It is one of the few awards that have been given continuously since 1984. From 1984 to 2006 it was called Best Special Effects in a Video and from 2007 to 2011 Best Special Effects . In 2012 it got its current name.
As with all technical categories, in this case too the artist, the artist's manager and the actual performer, in this case the director of the video, are recognized.
The record is held by director Jim Blashfield , special effects technician Sean Broughton and the production company GloriaFX , who each received the award twice. GloriaFX has also been nominated six times.
Peter Gabriel won the artist award three times. In contrast, Missy Elliott was nominated six times.
