Paparazzi is a pop song from 2009. The piece was interpreted by the American singer Lady Gaga and was released as the fourth and final single from her album The Fame .

Text content

After About.com's Ron Slomowicz referred to the various interpretations of the single in an interview with Gaga, she replied:

“Well, I'm very happy that there are some different interpretations, that was the whole point. The title is about several different topics - is it about my conflict, do I want fame or do I want love? It's also about pushing the paparazzi to fall in love with me. It's a love song for the cameras, but it's also a love song about fame or love - can you have both or can you only have one? "

- Lady Gaga

Gaga told the Australian newspaper Daily Telegraph that the song is also about the conflict of balance between success and love. About.com's Bill Lamb wrote that “the song is a tribute to the kinds of symbiotic but ultimately false and 'artificial' relationships between the stars and the wandering paparazzi […] that are there, good or bad, for celebrity to document and, in a certain sense, to create ”.

Music video

The music video was shot by Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund , who previously made music videos with artists such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna, Moby, Rammstein, and U2. His wife Bea Åkerlund worked as a stylist. The main roles of the 8-minute mini-film are played by Lady Gaga and the Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård , who plays her lover. The video premiere was originally planned for June 4, 2009 on the British channel Channel 4, but the video was already on the Internet at the end of May. Lady Gaga won two awards for the video at the MTV Video Music Awards 2009 in the categories Best Art Direction and Best Special Effects.
