A-Yo is a song by the American singer Lady Gaga from her fifth studio album Joanne , which was released in October 2016. Gaga, Hillary Lindsey , Mark Ronson and BloodPop wrote and produced the song, with the exception of Lindsey. It was released for download on October 18, 2016 and was to become the album's second single after Perfect Illusion . Ultimately, however, the record company decided for Million Reasons ,
History of origin
Singer-songwriter Hillary Lindsey , best known for country songs, was suggested by Lady Gaga's label Interscope Records as a potential songwriter for the album Joanne . A joint meeting was organized by A&R Aaron Bay-Schuck. The two met at Lady Gaga in Los Angeles and played song ideas for each other. In addition to A-Yo , the songs Grigio Girls and Million Reasons were created. In addition to Lindsey and Lady Gaga, producer Mark Ronson and BloodPop also co-wrote the song.

The song was first performed by Lady Gaga on the Dive Bar Tour in Nashville. It was released for download on October 18, 2016 . The cover of the single shows Gaga without a top, covering her chest with one hand and holding the other in the air. She wears a brown hat with a feather that covers her eyes. Gaga sang A-Yo on her Dive Bar Tour on October 5 and 20, 2016. Together with Million Reasons , A-Yo was first featured on Saturday Night Live on October 22, 2016.
Music genre
The Rolling Stone describes A-Yo as an optimistic country pop song . She also adapted her singing style, so she renounced the Manhattan dialect typical for her in favor of a country singing style. The song is to be understood as an answer to their haters.
