Venus is a song by the American singer Lady Gaga from her third studio album Artpop . It was written by Gaga, DJ White Shadow, Hugo Leclercq, Dino Zisis, Nick Monson and Sun Ra and produced by Gaga. Originally Venus was supposed to be the second single from the album, but the song was only released as a promotional single because the song Do What U Want received positive reviews and later became the second single. However, Venus was able to place itself in many charts. She sang the song on her ArtRave: The Artpop Ball tour in 2014.
background
The song contains an officially licensed sample of Rocket Number 9 recorded by the French synthesizer rockers Zombie Zombie . The title Rocket Number 9 is a song by the legendary jazz musician Sun Ra, which originally appeared on his album Space Is the Place in 1972 and extolled a rocket that took off to the planet Venus . In addition to the zombie-zombie sample, Lady Gaga borrowed the choir of Sun Ra Arkestra from 1972. However, she missed him a new text, "which addresses the ' love goddess Venus '." For Philip Sherburne, a song was created, "the sounds a lot like Barbarella 2.0. "
