Monster is a song by the American singer Lady Gaga from her album The Fame Monster . The song describes Lady Gaga's "fear of the sex monster". It was supposed to be published in Germany on November 5, 2010, but it didn't.

Background and composition

In an interview with MTV News, Lady Gaga said that “Monster” describes the fear of “attachment and the fear of love that is bad for you. I fall in love with the monster ”.

Monster was written in the key of C major by Lady Gaga and Space Cowboy. Gaga's vocal range extends from the low notes of E3 to the high notes of B4. The song was recorded at Record Plant Studio in Los Angeles in 2009. The song includes stuttering, synthesizers and 1980s drums. The song also uses heavy bass lines, descending lines and “massive” choirs, while someone praises Lady Gaga for being “hot as hell”. The lyrics contain metaphors related to zombies and monsters , such as: B. "He ate my heart and then he ate my brain" ("He ate my heart, and then he ate my brain") and "He's a wolf in disguise ... But I can't stop staring in those evil eyes" ( "He's a wolf who disguised himself ... But I can't stop staring into those evil eyes".).

The song makes an allusion to her first single Just Dance with the line “I wanna just dance but he took me home instead” . The “rude awakening” during and after a party plays a major role in both songs.

reception

The song received mixed reviews from critics. Michael Hubbard from musicOMH named “Monster” a potential single, praised the musical composition, but criticized the lyrics. Evan Sawdey from PopMatters also criticized the metaphors used in the lyrics of the song, but ultimately called it a surprisingly effective pop cocktail. Ben Patashnik from NME felt it was getting a little too monotonous. Rolling Stone Caryn Ganz compared "Monster" to the work of Stacey Q and described it as a sweet relapse. Pitchfork's Scott Plagenhoef saw similarities between Gaga's voice in the song "Monster" and Kylie Minogue's.
