Marry the Night is a song by the American singer Lady Gaga and is the fifth single from her second album Born This Way . It was written and produced by Lady Gaga and Fernando Garibay during the Monster Ball Tour .

background

Marry the Night was written by Lady Gaga and Fernando Garibay during the 2010 Monster Ball Tour. Garibay had already worked on Dance in the Dark , which has a very strong influence on Marry the Night. Lady Gaga didn't want the song to sound like one of her works at the time and was therefore influenced by the church bell music. She herself said that she started crying when she heard the song for the first time. Marry the Night was originally recorded at Bus Studio in 2010. It was later completed by Tony Maserati at RMC Studios in Los Angeles .

On February 14, 2011, Lady Gaga said on the Ryan Seacrests radio show that Marry the Night was the first track and one of her favorite songs on the upcoming album. She also said:

“It's like Whitney but imagining that Bruce Springsteen is having a baby with Whitney Houston. And that's it, we have a baby. Finally, after everything Fernando and I had worked long and hard to achieve. "

composition

Lady Gaga sings Marry The Night on her Born This Way Ball tour

Marry the Night is a dance pop song influenced by electro pop and house. It starts with electronic church bells, and Lady Gaga sings softly “I'm gonna marry the night / I won't give up on my life / I'm a warrior queen / Live passionately tonight”. The pace is quite slow at 64 beats per minute. The key is A minor with a range of G3-E5. The church bells are supposed to create parallels between Gaga's fans ( Little Monsters ) and religion ( Christianity ).

criticism

Marry the Night has received some positive reviews from critics. Stephen Erlewine from Allmusic said "Marry the Night shines with a neon pulse". Sal Cinquemani of Slant Magazine called it a worthy successor to Dance in the Dark , and BBC Music said Marry the Night was perfect and could become a colossus. About.com called the song near perfect and said it was a great invitation to the dark to embrace inside and out.

A negative rating came from PopMatters, who found the instrumental section after the 3:35 mark to be pointless.

Music video

The music video was filmed in Staten Island and Harlem (both New York ) from October 10-13, 2011 . A two-minute section was published on November 20th, followed by the full video on December 1st. Overall, the video is almost 14 minutes long, making it by far the longest Lady Gaga.
