Perfect Illusion ( Engl . For 'Perfect Illusion') is a song by the American pop singer Lady Gaga . It comes from her fifth studio album, Joanne , which was released in October 2016. The song was released on September 9, 2016 as the first single. It was written and produced by Lady Gaga, Kevin Parker, Mark Ronson and BloodPop .

In May 2016, Idolator reported that Lady Gaga was in the studio with Ronson, Parker, and BloodPop. Gaga published the title of the single on Instagram, in which she posted a mosaic consisting of 12 individual images. The picture says: "Lady Gaga Perfect Illusion New Single September Perfect Illusion". The single was released on September 9, 2016.
Cover
On the cover of the single, Lady Gaga is shown with a microphone in her hand jumping into the air in a desert before sunset. Carey O'Donnell of Paper magazine said the cover was "iconic" and Canadian singer Alice Glass said she liked the metal and punk look of Lady Gaga on the cover.
Music video
Page Six reported that the music video for the song was shot in a desert near Los Angeles over two days. Brandon Maxwell, who has worked with Lady Gaga on several occasions, took care of the outfits. Lady Gaga also posted some photos from the video shoot on Instagram. The music video, which also features Mark Ronson, BloodPop and Kevin Parker from the band Tame Impala , was released on September 20, 2016.
