Mark Ronson (2008)

Mark Daniel Ronson (born September 4, 1975 in London ) is a New York based English music producer , DJ and label owner .

biography

childhood

Mark Ronson's parents are Ashkenazi Jews . He grew up with three brothers and four sisters. At the age of eight he moved from London to New York to live with his stepfather Mick Jones . He plays guitar in the band Foreigner , which brought Ronson into contact with music at an early age. In addition, Ronson was temporarily engaged to the daughter of music producer Quincy Jones , Rashida Jones , and his sister Samantha Ronson is under contract with the hip-hop label Roc-A-Fella Records . During his studies at New York University he made a name for himself as a DJ in the New York club scene and played at P. Diddy's private parties . He is known for his cross-genre song selection, which ranges from the New York hip-hop scene to the English rock scene.

Career

Mark Ronson (2011)

After producing the song Everybody Got Their Something for Nikka Costa , he signed a record deal with Elektra Records . His first album, Here Comes the Fuzz , was released in 2003, with numerous guest stars (including Nate Dogg , Ghostface Killah , The Roots , Sean Paul , Weezer , Mos Def and Q-Tip ), but initially hardly sold. He then produced numerous songs for artists such as Christina Aguilera , Amy Winehouse , Lily Allen and Robbie Williams .

Together with his manager Rich Kleiman, he founded the record label Allido Records in 2004 as a subsidiary of J Records , which in turn reports to Sony Music Entertainment . The first signed artist was Rhymefest , who co-wrote the hit Jesus Walks for Kanye West .

In March 2006, Ronson released a cover of Radioheads Just as a single , which was played by numerous radio stations , especially in England . A month later, the album Version was released, which largely consists of cover versions of well-known rock and pop songs .

In the autumn of 2007 he concentrated on producing again. In particular, the collaboration with Amy Winehouse turned out to be extremely successful. Her album Back to Black rose to the top of the charts in many countries and the single Rehab became one of the biggest hits of the year. With the cover of the song Valerie by the band The Zutons they also had a single hit together, which was number 1 in the Netherlands for four weeks . The singer received five awards at the 2008 Grammy Awards and Mark Ronson was named Grammy Producer of the Year. At the BRIT Awards 2008 he received the award for the best British solo artist.

Since 2010 he has also been publishing with his own band under the name Mark Ronson and the Business Intl. In 2011 he composed the anthem for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London for the beverage company Coca-Cola .

In 2010 he produced the 13th studio album All You Need Is Now for the British pop band Duran Duran , which reached high chart positions and received very good reviews.

His song UpTown Funk! (feat. Bruno Mars ) was 2,014 as British Single of the Year and at the Grammy Awards in 2016 as Record of the Year as well as Best Pop Duo performance excellent.

After that he worked with, among others Nile Rodgers and John Frusciante on Album Paper Gods of Duran Duran , released in September, 2015.

In 2016 he worked as a producer and songwriter on the album Joanne by Lady Gaga, which was released that same year.

Ronson produced the 2017 album Villains by the band Queens of the Stone Age .

Private

From September 2010 to April 2017 he was married to the actress Joséphine de La Baume .
