Miguel Jontel Pimentel (born October 23, 1985 in Los Angeles ), stage name Miguel , is an American R&B singer and songwriter.

Career

Pimentel comes from the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, where many Americans of Mexican descent live. He signed his first contract at the age of 14, but canceled it again when he was 18. After that he was under contract with an indie label for two years, but there was no release. His recordings found their way to Mark Pitts from Jive Records , who gave him a record deal in 2007.

Due to legal disputes with his old indie label, it was three years before he could release his first single. In between he worked as a songwriter with Usher and Asher Roth , on whose album track His Dream he sang along . Also on the Top 6 R & B hit If U Leave of Musiq Soulchild with Mary J. Blige , he was involved. His single debut All I Want Is You with the support of rapper J. Cole was released in September 2010 and hit the US singles charts straight away .

On the occasion of the Grammy Awards 2020 a tribute concert for Prince took place on January 28, 2020 in the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles under the motto "Let's Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince", at which Miguel I Would Die 4 U sang . The concert aired on U.S. television on April 21, 2020, the fourth anniversary of Prince's death.
