DJ Khaled (born November 26, 1975 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; real name Khaled Mohamed Khaled ) is an American DJ , backup rapper and music producer from Miami , Florida . He is of Palestinian descent.

Career

Khaled started out as a DJ at his college radio in Miami and then went to the popular underground station Mixx 96. His success eventually led to a show on one of the major radio stations in Miami, 99 Jamz. He also began working as a music producer for numerous well-known hip-hop musicians, in particular for the members of the Terror Squad .

In the mid-2000s, he decided to produce his own album and, thanks to his previous activities, was able to win numerous well-known names for it B. Fat Joe , Kanye West , Lil Wayne , Juelz Santana , Bone Thugs-N-Harmony , Twista , Akon and Styles P . Listennn: The Album was released in June 2006 and reached number 1 in the independent charts. It was also quite successful in the official Top 200 sales charts and a Hot 100 hit could also be released with Holla at Me .

Just a year later, the second album, We the Best , followed, again with very prominent participation, including this time TI , T-Pain , The Game , Plies and Jadakiss . With the pre-released We Takin 'Over Khaled and Co. came under the top 40 singles for the first time and the album also exceeded the success of the debut. With the second album release I'm So Hood , he made it to number 19 in the Hot 100 and in the top 10 of the R&B and rap charts.

DJ Khaled has now founded his own label with We the Best Music Group . His third album, We Global , was released in September 2008 and the pre-release Out Here Grindin 'hit the charts again in July 2008.

In 2009, the song Fed Up (which was created with Usher , Drake, Young Jeezy and Rick Ross) was the first release from his upcoming album Victory . Put Your Hands Up followed. Young Jeezy and Rick Ross also worked here. All I Do Is Win was the first single to be placed in the USA after two years. It reached number 98 in the UK and number 24 in the US. He recorded these together with rappers T-Pain , Ludacris , Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross . It has been awarded triple platinum for over 3 million sales. Victory appeared just a month later .

Only one year later, on July 19, 2011, his studio album We the Best was released . Welcome to My Hood was the first single. Rick and T-Pain support him once more. I'm on One with Drake , Rick Ross and Lil Wayne was released as the second single. Both songs hit the US charts, of which the latter recorded its first top 10 placement.

In the summer of 2012, the album Kiss the Ring was released , which reached number four on the US Billboard 200. The first single, I Wish You Would, featured Kanye West and Rick Ross . This could not follow on from the success of the previous year. Take It to the Head , the second single, sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone. He brought Chris Brown , Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne into the studio.

Suffering from Success is his fifth Top 10 album the following year. No New Friends was released as the first single. This was recorded with Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne and reached number 36 on the US singles chart. The second single I Wanna Be with You could not achieve a placement, however, the song advanced to the R&B and rap charts.

They Dont 'Love You No More , which featured Jay-Z , Meek Mill , Rick Ross and French Montana as voices, did not score in the official singles charts. The song is the first pre-release single from his upcoming studio album. Hold You Down also followed in 2014. The song, sung by Chris Brown, August Alsina , Future and Jeremih , advanced to number 39 in the US with half a million sales. How Many Times is the third single and was released in early 2015. Chris Brown is also involved here. Rap parts from Lil Wayne and Big Sean were also included. With gold slugs , another Chris Brown Collab the final extraction was released in October 2015 before a week later, the studio album I Changed a Lot has been released.

The studio album Major Key was released on July 29, 2016. All singles were released between June 2016 and July 2016. For Free with Drake was the first single since 2011 in the UK singles charts. In the US, the top quarter was reached. I Got the Keys with Jay-Z and Future, Holy Key with Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar and Betty Wright as well as Do You Mind with Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Jeremih, Future, August Alsina and Rick Ross could all get the US single -Charts. With the songs he reached over three million sales.

DJ Khaled announced another album at the end of 2016. At the time, the album title Grateful was unknown. From this he previously coupled the song Shining with Beyoncé and Jay-Z . The song reached the UK and US singles charts. The second release was the song I'm the One , which came out in collaboration with Justin Bieber , Quavo , Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne in April 2017 . This already achieved high popularity in the first week. On June 5, 2017, the third single To the Max was released in collaboration with Drake. At the same time it was announced that Grateful will be officially released on June 23, 2017. On June 9th, the track list from the album was published for the first time. On June 13, 2017, 10 days before the release of his 10th studio album Grateful , DJ Khaled announced that he would be releasing a joint shoe with the Jordan brand . To have a chance of winning the shoe, you had to pre-order your album on iTunes . In the first week, Grateful sold 150,000 copies. He also starred in the comedy Pitch Perfect 3 in 2017 and played a supporting role in the 2020 action film Bad Boys for Life .

In 2019 he received a Grammy Award for Higher along with John Legend and Nipsey Hussle for best rap collaboration .

Private life

Khaled is engaged to Nicole Tuck. At the BET Awards on June 26, 2016, the couple announced that they were expecting a child. Their first child, Asahd, was born on October 23, 2016. He describes himself as a devout Muslim.

In July 2017, Khaled auctioned off his own personal clothing and supported the non-profit organization Get Schooled with the income generated .
