Migo is an American hip-hop - Trio of Lawrenceville , Georgia , which was founded in the year of 2008. It consists of the rappers Offset , Quavo and Takeoff . They celebrated their commercial breakthrough in 2013 after several mixtapes releases with their debut single Versace . In 2016 they hit the German singles charts for the first time with the song Bad and Boujee from their second studio album Culture and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks .

Band history

Until 2016: foundation and musical beginnings

The three rappers Offset , Quavo and Takeoff merged in 2008 under the name Polo Club and changed their name to Migos the following year . They started producing mixtapes . The second release No Label included the track Bando , with which they had their first success in their home town of Atlanta. Kevin Lee, manager of Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy , became aware of her and producer Zaytoven supported her with further releases. Their next mixtape, YRN (Young Rich Niggas), was released on the Quality Control label and they already achieved their national breakthrough with the song Versace on it . It stayed in the rap and R&B charts for a long time and also made it into the official charts . It also achieved gold status. The participation of the rapper Drake in a song remix made for additional popularity . The mixtape also hit the R&B charts.

A year later they entered the official album charts for the first time with the mixtape No Label 2 . It included Fight Night , her second chart hit and the second gold single. It was her first release on the independent label Atlantic . The debut album Yung Rich Nation was released there in 2015 , which reached number 3 on the rap charts and number 17 on the official charts. The two single releases One Time and Pipe It Up missed the chart entry. But they had another single hit with Look at My Dab . The dance choreography from the music video found numerous imitators and became a minor viral phenomenon on the internet.

2016–2017: Debut album Culture

In 2016, Quavious Marshall alias Quavo in particular used it to take part in the singles of numerous prominent musicians and rappers, for example he took part in the song VVS by the German rapper Ufo361 . These songs made it into the charts several times and twice achieved gold status. At the end of the year, Migos recorded the single Bad and Boujee again together with Lil Uzi Vert . It is the lead single from their album Culture , which was released on January 27, 2017. Within a few weeks, the song rose to number 1 in the US charts and was also able to place in the charts in English-speaking countries. After the album was released, six more songs also made it into the US singles charts. Among them was the follow -up single T-Shirt , which sold over 2 million times there. On May 16, 2017, Migos released the third single Slippery , which was recorded together with Gucci Mane .

Together with the Scottish producer Calvin Harris and the American musician Frank Ocean , they released the single Slide in spring 2017 , which became an international hit and sold over 3 million times. Shortly thereafter, they contributed a guest part to Katy Perry's Witness single Bon Appétit , which enabled the trio to chart another place in over 25 countries. On September 5, 2017, in collaboration with Gucci Mane, they released the song Get the Bag , which advanced to number 11 in the US and was awarded triple platinum. At the end of 2017, together with the American DJ and producer Marshmello , they contributed the song Danger to the Netflix fantasy action film Bright . Although it was not released as a single, it was able to place itself in the US and Canadian charts through streaming numbers. In addition, a joint music video was released.

2018: Culture II

On October 27, 2017, Migos released the single MotorSport , which marked the start of their third studio album. This was developed in cooperation with the US rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B . In December 2017 the song Stir Fry followed as a second release. This was written and produced by the American musician Pharrell Williams . As with their predecessor, the single reached the top 10 in their home country as well as awards in numerous other countries. On December 8, 2017, their record label "Quality Control Music" released a collaboration album on which they contributed several songs both as a trio and solo. On January 22, 2018, the song Supastars was released as a promo - and at the same time the last pre-release single.

Culture II followed on January 26, 2018 , which sold over a million times in the United States and thus, like its predecessor, received the platinum award. 13 of the 36 tracks were able to advance into the US singles charts right away, including collaborations with Post Malone , 21 Savage and Big Sean . In March 2018, the song Walk It Talk It was released as the third official single. It was a collaboration with the Canadian rapper Drake . The last release was the song Narcos in July 2018 . On July 27, 2018, they released the song Hot Summer in collaboration with the American producer DJ Durel .

2019: Culture III

In January 2019 they released the song Pure Water in collaboration with the US producer Mustard . Quavo announced in an interview that the release of Culture III was planned for 2019.
