21 Savage
21 Savage (born October 22, 1992 in Newham , London ; real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph or Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph ) is a British rapper based in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia .
Life
Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph was born in Newham Hospital in East London and is a British citizen . He grew up with his British mother, Heather Joseph, originally from the Caribbean state of Dominica , and his four brothers and six sisters. In 2005, at the age of 12, he moved with his family to the United States and settled in Atlanta. In 7th grade, he was expelled from school, the DeKalb County School District, after bringing a gun.
Abraham-Joseph was a member of the Bloods and was involved in criminal activities. On his 21st birthday, he was shot six times during an attempted robbery and his best friend was killed.
In February 2019, he was arrested by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement while entering the United States . According to the authority - contrary to previous assumptions - he is not a US-American, but a British citizen who has lived in Atlanta without a valid residence permit since 2006 , because the visa he acquired in 2005 expired a year later and was not renewed. He was arrested and released a week and a half after his arrest on bail for $ 100,000.
Career
21 Savage founded the hip-hop crew Slaughtergang in Atlanta with his friend Lotto Savage . In the mid-2010s, both started solo releases. Savage started with the single Picky in 2014 , followed by two mixtapes, The Slaughter Tape and Slaughter King . In addition, the EP Free Guwop was released , which was produced by Sonny Digital.
The breakthrough came in 2016 with another collaboration with another local DJ. Together with Metro Boomin , he recorded the EP Savage Mode , which was released in the summer and reached the Top 10 Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs . It reached number 23 on the Billboard 200. Two singles from the album also made it into the Billboard Hot 100 : X together with rappers Future and No Heart . The songs were each awarded platinum . He had two other appearances each on the single Sneakin by Drake and the single Offended by Meek Mill . 21 Savage's debut album, Issa Album , was released on July 7, 2017 and reached position 2 on the Billboard 200. At the end of October, it reached gold status. On October 31, 2017 he released the studio album Without Warning together with rapper Offset from hip-hop trio Migos and producer Metro Boomin . In 2018 he made a guest appearance on the single Rover by BlocBoy JB .
For his single A Lot (with J. Cole ) he won a 2020 Grammy Award for Rap Song of the Year.
