I Would Die 4 U is a song by the American musician Prince , released in 1984 , which he wrote , composed , arranged and produced . The piece was released on November 26, 1984 as the fourth single from his album Purple Rain . Prince recorded I Would Die 4 U with his then backing band The Revolution . The song can also be heard in the Prince film Purple Rain .
