El Perro del Mar is a project founded in Gothenburg in 2003 by Sarah Assbring , of which Assbring himself is the only member.

Career

According to Assbring, the inspiration for the naming came during a stay in Spain when she met a stray dog ​​on the beach. A short time later she released several EPs on the Swedish independent label Hybris , which were released in 2005 under the title Look! It's El Perro del Mar! were combined into a debut album. A common single and tour with Jens Lekman increased their popularity. With the EP God Knows (You Gotta Give to Get) she achieved her first success in Sweden. 2006, the selbstbenannte album El Perro del Mar, a slightly modified re-release of their first work, by the British label Memphis Industries in theUnited States and distributed in Great Britain . In 2008, the Swedish band The Concretes Assbrings released their second album From the Valley to the Stars on the label Licking Fingers .

reception

El Perro del Mar received consistently positive reviews comparing her voice to Jane Birkin and showing influences from Burt Bacharach . Other critics placed them alongside Stina Nordenstam and Anna Ternheim and emphasized the quality of the classically arranged pop songs.
