background

The song is a duet with Apollonia Kotero and was originally supposed to appear on their album Apollonia 6 , but in the end they chose Purple Rain . The song Take Me with U shows a gentler side of Prince and was his first official duet. The original version of the song is one minute longer than the single, but the version of the single is preferred by most fans. On the B-side to the title is Baby I'm a Star , also from the album. The song peaked at number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1985 and number 7 on the UK charts.

Take Me with U can also be heard on the Prince compilation 4Ever (2016). The song is also featured on the album Purple Rain Deluxe (2017).
