Jasmine Khezri

Jasmin Khezri (born June 1, 1967 in London ) is a German-Persian graphic designer , illustrator and fashion journalist . She was art director of the SZ youth magazine Jetzt and the magazine Marie Claire . She became famous through the development of their cartoon -Figur Irma .

Life

Jasmin Khezri grew up in Germany, England and France. On her mother's side, she comes from a German family of artists, her grandfather was the sculptor Carl Vilz . Her grandmother, who worked for the fashion company Peek & Cloppenburg after the Second World War, first as a buyer and later as a department manager, introduced her to the world of fashion . Khezri describes her grandmother, who collected costumes from Chanel , Yves Saint Laurent and Nina Ricci and wore them at home, as her role model. Your father comes from Persia; she has a brother.

She studied graphic design at Parsons The New School for Design in Paris and Los Angeles and graduated with a master's degree. In Los Angeles she invented the cartoon character Irma , her graphic alter ego and her stage name, under which she drew illustrations for film studios. The figure Irma , an “ elf- like line creature”, was named by Khezri after her grandmother, “because, like the fantasy figure , she was cosmopolitan and elegant”. After completing her studies, Khezri went to Germany in the early 1990s and initially worked for the SZ-Magazin of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich. It was there that the figure Irma first appeared in 1992 as an illustration in the educational guide by author Axel Hacke .

In 1993 Khezri became art director of the SZ youth magazine Jetzt , whose innovative design she created. In 1998 she became art director of Marie Claire magazine and in 2000 creative director of fashion company Peek & Cloppenburg. In 2002 she began to write her own columns on fashion and cosmetics for international magazines under her stage name Irma . Khezris / Irmas “Advice on Fashion, Lifestyle and Beauty” are published by fashion magazines in Germany, Great Britain, France, the USA and Japan and at the end of 2012, for example, were read by almost a million people every month. Your texts and illustrations may appear a. regularly in magazines such as Tatler in Great Britain, Elle in Japan, Marie Claire , Cosmopolitan , Vogue and Glamor . She also runs the English-language fashion and lifestyle blog irmasdiary.com and is also present as Irma on social networks such as Facebook and Instagram .

Khezri was 2,009 at the Office of the European Union for Intellectual Property (EUIPO) a registration of the trademark Irma as so-called Union brand make, so this comprehensive brand protection within the European Union enjoy. The figure Irma is now considered "a world-famous trendsetter " and has been used as an advertising and image figure by international fashion and cosmetics companies such as Hermès , Shiseido , Céline , Kiehl’s and others.

Since 2015 Khezri has also been writing regular Irma columns for Icon , the fashion and lifestyle magazine of the newspaper Welt am Sonntag . In the online edition of the world , the news portal Welt.de , Khezri's character Irma has its own “author profile” as “Contributor to Icon”.

Khezri lives and works in Munich. She is married and has two kids.
