Carl Vilz (born November 4, 1914 in Cologne , † 1945 (declared missing)) was a German sculptor and artist. He is the grandfather of the artist Jasmin Khezri .

life and work

Carl Vilz came from a family of craftsmen in Cologne. After finishing school and doing an apprenticeship in a decoration company in Cologne, he began studying at the Cologne factory school . From 1938 he studied sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he became a master student of Joseph Enseling in 1940 . He became an extraordinary member of the Malkasten Artists 'Association and in 1942 he got a job in the studio house of the Golzheim artists' settlement in Düsseldorf. He created numerous busts as commissioned works as well as the monumental sculptures Girls (1941, awarded the Cornelius Prize of the City of Düsseldorf in 1942), Nereide (1942) and Flora (1944). His work was repeatedly interrupted by military missions in World War II; In 1945 he did not return from an assignment and was declared missing.
