reception

Press

The album PlectrumElectrum was rated slightly lower than Art Official Age by the international press , but Neil McCormick of the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph was enthusiastic; he gave PlectrumElectrum the highest score with five stars. The music on the album is "bold and excellent".

André Boße from Musikexpress gave three and a half stars out of six and wrote that the album was “over the top, sometimes silly. There are stupid riffs , sometimes the Rocky Horror Picture Show sounds , often Lenny Kravitz . But when this gang [3rdEyeGirl] finds its groove like with Boytrouble , then you don't want to sit a moment longer. ”Werner Herpel from Stern.de praised the album and was of the opinion that PlectrumElectrum was“ more interesting ”than Art Official Age . On PlectrumElectrum , Prince sounds “more funky and rock than it has been for a long time”. Not for nothing is one of the songs called Funknroll .

Kenneth Partridge of Billboard were three out of five stars and wrote, "as a companion" of art official age is PlectrumElectrum Although "more dessert than a side dish," but 3rdEyeGirl was best at Soul - Pop - Tunes such as Whitecaps and Stop This Train . Guitar- heavy songs like Aintturninround and Fixurlifeup didn't appeal to Partridge very much. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic also gave three out of five stars and Evan Sawdey from online magazine PopMatters gave it five out of ten points.

Stephen M. Deusner of the Pitchfork Media website had a very different opinion ; he was disappointed with the album and only gave 3.8 out of ten points. In conclusion, he drew that PlectrumElectrum "only copied the sound and politics of Rock 'n' Roll 's seductive past".

After Prince's death in April 2016, the music journalists Albert Koch and Thomas Weiland from Musikexpress reviewed the album again and gave it three and a half out of six stars, like André Boße in 2014. Among other things, they wrote: “The idea of the jam session ultimately played a bigger role than the quality of the songs. Not to be complained about as a change ”.
