The music belongs to the genres of electronic dance music , funk , pop music and rock music . Sheila E. and Prince 's band, The Revolution, are guest musicians . Also are Jill Jones and Susannah Melvoin represented as guest singers.

On April 13, 2019 The Prince Estate brought (dt .: The Princeton discount ) the double LP officially re-release out, this time in a limited edition of 14,000 copies worldwide. Music critics did not rate the double LP in 1985 and showed little interest in its re-release in 2019. From a commercial point of view, the re-release could reach the top 200 of the US album charts.

His Majesty's Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club was also released on Compact Disc in July 2020 , but only as an import from Japan.

Emergence

After Strange Tales from the Rain (1984) His Majesty's Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club , the second promo - compilation album by Prince. The album was only released in Japan at the end of 1985 and had a circulation of only 500 double LPs. When the annual in April 2019 Record Store Day was held in the US, brought The Prince Estate (dt .: The Princeton estate ) His Majesty's Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club out again in its original output. This time the album is limited to 14,000 copies worldwide.

The earliest recorded song that Warner Bros. Records placed on His Majesty's Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club is the 1999 album version . Prince recorded the piece on August 7, 1982 at his private recording studio, Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen . The max version of Little Red Corvette , which was originally over twelve minutes long, he recorded on January 7, 1983 in Sunset Sound in Los Angeles , California. A week later, Prince added overdubs and finished the final version of Litte Red Corvette (Dance Mix) in Sunset Sound.

1984 Prince worked again several times in Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and recorded songs there. Sheila E. created the "Fresh Dance Mix" for Pop Life on February 19th, and Prince completed the album version of When Doves Cry on March 3rd. On March 25th Sheila E. sang the vocals for Erotic City and on April 4th Prince mixed the song and added overdubs. He recorded the album version of America on July 23, 1984 at the Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse in Eden Prairie , Minnesota, and produced the "Special Dance Mix" of Let's Go Crazy on August 5, 1984 at Sunset Sound. Prince completed Raspberry Beret on September 13, 1984 in the Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse. It is not publicly known when the “New Mix” was produced. Prince mixed the song Paisley Park on October 11, 1984 in Sunset Sound. It is not known whether this was the “remix”. The "Extended Version" of I Would Die 4 U was recorded live by Prince with The Revolution and Sheila E. on October 25th in Minneapolis in the Arena Minneapolis Auditorium, and was completed on December 7th, 1984 in Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.

Design of the cover

The record cover of the double LP His Majesty's Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club is designed as a gatefold cover. On the front cover, the upper body of Wendy Melvoin is shown in a surrealistic representation and shows her as a crying old woman with white hair. Her lower body can be seen on the back cover in a surrealistic form, and the album's tracklist is also printed. The pictures are taken from the album cover of Around the World in a Day , which Doug Henders (* 1957) had created. The front cover of His Majesty's Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club is identical to that of the single Pop Life , released July 10, 1985.

When the flip cover is open, the inside shows a photo of Prince and The Revolution performing live on a stage, but it is not depicted in a surreal way. The lyrics of the individual songs are not printed on either the double LP or the CD.

The CD contains a "Prince Chronological" created by Masaharu Yoshioka with dates from June 7, 1958 to July 1985, which can, however, be read entirely in Japanese. Yoshioka is a Japanese music writer, translator, and DJ who specializes in black music .
