Eden Prairie (also City of Eden Prairie ) is a city in the US state of Minnesota . It has 60,797 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Eden Prairie is located in southeast Minnesota, 11 miles southwest of Minneapolis and directly north of the Minnesota River . The area is 91.2 square kilometers.
history
The place received its current name in 1852. In 1858 it became a town. In 1880 the population was 739, in 1960 around 2000. Rapid urban development took place in the 1960s and 1970s.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, Eden Prairie has 54,901 people in 20,457 households and 14,585 families. The population density is 654 inhabitants per km². Racially, the population is made up of around 90.6 percent white population, around five percent Asian-Americans and smaller minorities.
Children under the age of 18 live in 42.6% of the 20,457 households, married couples in 61.3%, female singles in 7.7% and 28.7% are not family households. 22.0% of all households consist exclusively of a single person and 3.4% live singles over 65 years of age. The average household size is 2.68 people, that of families 3.20.
In relation to the entire city, the population is made up of 30.5% residents under 18 years of age, 6.2% between 18 and 24 years of age, 35.6% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.9% between 45 and 64 years of age 4.9% over 65 years. The median is 34 years. About 50.9% of the population is female.
The median income of a household is USD 78,328 and that of a family is USD 93,258. The per capita income is $ 38,854. About 2.8% of the population and 3.5% of families live below the poverty line.
education
The city is the seat of the Hennepin Technical College with approx. 7000 students. It also has four elementary schools and three secondary schools . These include Eden Prairie High School , the largest high school in the state with around 3,600 students .

The companies ADC Telecommunications and Starkey Hearing Technologies have their headquarters in Eden Prairie .
