Edina is a city in Hennepin County , Minnesota . It is located immediately southwest of Minneapolis in the metropolitan area of ​​the Twin Cities and has around 47,000 inhabitants.

Originally Edina was part of what is now Richfield . Settlers of European descent had settled in the Minnehaha Creek area in the 1850s and 1860s . In 1888 a meeting was held at which it was decided to split off the southwestern part of Richfield and set up a separate town. Different names like Hennepin Park , Westfield and Edina were available. Edina was able to prevail with 49 to 42 votes .
