Edina is a city in Hennepin County , Minnesota . It is located immediately southwest of Minneapolis in the metropolitan area of the Twin Cities and has around 47,000 inhabitants.

Edina is located in the US state of Minnesota in the American Midwest . According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 40.8 square kilometers, of which 0.7 square kilometers is water.
history
Originally Edina was part of what is now Richfield . Settlers of European descent had settled in the Minnehaha Creek area in the 1850s and 1860s . In 1888 a meeting was held at which it was decided to split off the southwestern part of Richfield and set up a separate town. Different names like Hennepin Park , Westfield and Edina were available. Edina was able to prevail with 49 to 42 votes .
