Brooklyn Center is a city in Hennepin County in the US state of Minnesota . It is located in the northwest of the metropolitan region of the Twin Cities and has around 29,000 inhabitants.

Brooklyn Center is west of the Mississippi River on Interstate 94 . According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 13.6 square kilometers, of which 1.0 square kilometers is water.
history
The area of today's Brooklyn Center belonged to the Dakota Indians until 1851 . Only with the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux were the land areas released for settlement. The first families settled there in the summer of 1852. The area of today's city belonged to the southeastern part of Brooklyn Township and the northeastern part of Crystal Lake Township. The Brooklyn Township was created in 1858, two years later the Crystal Lake Township was formed from parts of the Brooklyn and Minneapolis Townships. In 1911, the population voted for the establishment of the Brooklyn Center village . 1966 this received city rights.
Brooklyn Center now has a 303 hectare industrial park with the Brookdale Center , one of the largest shopping centers in the Midwest .

According to the 2000 census, Brooklyn Center had 29,172 people; 11,430 households and 7,383 families were counted. The population density is 1,419 inhabitants per km². The racial the population is made up of 71.4 percent white population, 14.1 percent African American, 8.8 percent Asian American and smaller minorities.
Children under the age of 18 live in 29.7% of the 11,430 households, married couples in 46.3%, female singles in 13.4% and 35.4% are not family households. 28.2% of all households consist exclusively of a single person and 11.0% have single people over 65 years of age. The average household size is 2.52 people, that of families 3.11.
In relation to the entire city, the population is made up of 25.1% residents under 18 years of age, 9.6% between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.1% between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.1% between 45 and 64 years of age 15.4% over 65 years. The median is 35 years. About 51.3% of the population is female.
