history
Today's New Hope was part of Crystal Lake Township until 1936 . As it grew in the 1930s, it was to be converted into a city. However, this met with resistance, especially from the rural population in the west of Chrystal , as they did not want to pay taxes for the development of the urban infrastructure. They split off and founded their own township called New Hope (Eng. "New Hope" ).
However, this also led to discrepancies within the new township, as the population living to the east on the border with Crystal wanted to benefit from the advantages of a city and therefore demanded integration into Crystal. In 1953, New Hope was given city status. This in turn caused displeasure among farmers , but due to population growth they had become a minority.
