history
The area of today's Maple Grove was settled by the Winnebago Indians until Louis Gervais settled there in 1851 and built a settlement. The settlement grew rapidly so that Maple Grove had a church, town hall and school by the early 1860s. In addition to agriculture , forestry and dairy were also important.
In 1880 the number of inhabitants was 1,155, by 1950 the population had grown to 1,778. Only after the end of the Second World War did the city's growth accelerate. Maple Grove became one of the most popular spots in the Twin Cities region. In 1990 the population was already 38,800, in 2005 it reached 60,000, making it one of the fastest growing cities in the state.
