William Kevin Acton (born July 16, 1987 in Edina , Minnesota ) is a Canadian - American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League since April 2018 . His father Keith was also a long-time ice hockey player and temporarily acted as an assistant coach to his son at his station in Edmonton.
Career
Acton began his career in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) , where he completed a total of four seasons for the Stouffville Spirit between 2003 and 2007 . The attacker was then on the ice for the university team of Lake Superior State University in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , which is part of the NCAA's gaming operations . In March 2011 he was signed by the NHL organization of the Toronto Maple Leafs , but played the following two seasons exclusively for their farm team Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League . In the summer of 2013, Acton moved to the Edmonton Oilers organization , where he played 30 games in the top division of North America for the first time in the 2013/14 season and played the rest of the season for the AHL farm team Oklahoma City Barons .
Shortly after the start of the 2014/15 season, the left shooter was transferred to the Vancouver Canucks , where he was used exclusively in the AHL for the Utica Comets . In September 2015 Acton was signed by the Schwenninger Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), where he came up with jersey number 41. He recorded 55 points (16 goals, 39 assists) in 46 games during the DEL main round, making it the third-best figure in the league.
