Chad Bassen (born April 25, 1983 in Strathmore , Alberta ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League since September 2018 .
Career
Chad Bassen began his professional career with the Regina Pats in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League and played in the period from 2000 to 2004 for a total of four teams within the WHL. From the Regina Pats, the left winger had moved to the Vancouver Giants , then to the Medicine Hat Tigers , until he was finally on the ice for the Everett Silvertips .
For the 2004/05 season , the Canadian, who in the meantime had also received German citizenship, signed with the Frankfurt Lions . There he played until 2007, but could not prevail decisively. After a brief stint at EV Landsberg in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2006/07 season , Bassen switched to the Straubing Tigers in autumn 2007 , who had been promoted to the DEL a year earlier. Under the new coach Bob Manno , Bassen managed to establish himself in Straubing, so that his contract was extended in spring 2008 to the end of the 2009/10 season. For the 2010/11 season , the striker signed a contract with the Hamburg Freezers . After a year, the left shooter left Hamburg again and moved to the Augsburg Panthers , where he and his team reached the pre-playoffs twice. At the end of the season, the German-Canadian turned down a contract extension and signed a one-year contract with Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg , his fifth club in the DEL , in the summer of 2013 . For the 2014/15 season he moved to league competitor Iserlohn Roosters .
In September 2018, Bassen moved to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers .
Personal
Parts of Bassen's family come from Germany. His uncle Mark Bassen was also a professional ice hockey player and played for five different clubs in Germany between 1994 and 2000.
