Christopher Clay "Chris" Summers (born February 5, 1988 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League since July 2019 .
Career
After spending two years in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , Summers played on the University of Michigan team from 2006 to 2010 in the Big Ten Conference , which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .
In March 2010, the defender was signed by the Phoenix Coyotes from the National Hockey League , who had previously drafted him in the first round of the 2006 NHL Draft . After a few appearances in the American Hockey League (AHL), in the then farm team San Antonio Rampage , Summers made his debut in the 2010/11 season in the NHL and has since been alternately either with the Coyotes or with the current farm team, the Portland Pirates , in the AHL used. In May 2014, his contract with the Coyotes was extended by two years.
After five years, the Coyotes gave him along with Keith Yandle and a four-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft to the New York Rangers . In return, the Rangers transferred Anthony Duclair , John Moore and two entry-draft options (second round in 2015 and first round in 2016 ) to Arizona.
After the 2016/17 season, the Rangers did not extend his expiring contract, so Summers joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent in July 2017 .
In July 2019, Chris Summers signed a two-year contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League .
