Philippe Dupuis (born April 24, 1985 in Laval , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League since May 2016 .
Career
2001-2006 Canadian Youth League
Philippe Dupuis learned to play ice hockey in his birthplace with the Laval Régents. As a 16-year-old, he was able to recommend himself to the team of the Gatineau Olympiques from the QJMHL , one of the three big Canadian junior ice hockey leagues . In Gatineau he played three years in which he won the championship, the Coupe du Président , twice . During this time he lives with a host family with Derick Brassard , with whom he has been on friendly terms ever since. For the 2004/2005 season Dupuis moved within the league to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in which he was the most successful player with 84 points in the main round together with Brent Aubin . He spent his last year as a youth player in the QJMHL this time with the Moncton Wildcats , with whom he was able to win the championship cup again and Dupuis was the most successful scorer of the "Wildcats" with a total of 140 points.
2007–2013 North American professional league
Philippe Dupuis was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fourth round in a total of 104th position. With the Blue Jackets, however, he was never used in the National Hockey League , but played as a professional for their farm team, the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League .
On January 22, 2008, the winger was transferred to the Colorado Avalanche along with Darcy Campbell , the Blue Jackets received Mark Rycroft in return . His first use for the team from Denver and thus his first NHL game ever played Dupuis on December 13, 2008 against the Chicago Blackhawks . However , the striker spent most of the 2008/09 NHL season with Colorado's farm team Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL , where he was the season's most successful scorer with 46 points . The following season Dupuis played 68 games for the Monsters and four for the Avalanche, for which he scored his first point in the NHL on November 4, 2009 in the game against the Phoenix Coyotes .
At the beginning of the 2010-11 season , the attacker signed a new one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche , which was not renewed at the end of the season. On July 7, 2011, Dupuis agreed on a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs . He played 30 NHL games for the Maple Leafs in the 2011/12 season and 42 appearances for their farm team in the AHL, the Toronto Marlies in which he played with Marcel Müller and was able to reach the playoff season finale . In July 2012, he then signed a one-year contract with another NHL club, the Pittsburgh Penguins , but not booked for the team in the 2012/13 season in the NHL. Instead, he ran on in 34 games for Pittsburgh's farm team, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins .
Since 2013 German ice hockey league
For the 2013/14 season Dupuis moved to Germany to the Hamburg Freezers from the DEL , where he was active for the next three seasons. In his first year with the Freezers he was able to contribute 35 points to their most successful season in the club's history, with first place after the preliminary round. In the following season , the Canadian only played 28 games for Hamburg due to injuries. In the 2015/16 season, which was disappointing for the club due to the non-participation in the playoffs , Dupuis was together with Jerome Flaake top scorer of his team with again 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists). Nevertheless, Hamburg did not extend his contract at the end of the season, two months later the general withdrawal of the club from the DEL became known. In May 2016 he signed a contract with the DEL club Nürnberg Ice Tigers . Here he was able to establish himself as a playmaker and leader, especially in the 2017/18 season , when he became the most successful scorer for Nuremberg after the preliminary round with 38 points and his contract was extended until 2020.
