founding

The Nürnberger Nachrichten (NN) first appeared on October 11, 1945 . Its founder, the publisher Joseph E. Drexel , had received license No. 3 for a newspaper publisher from the occupying power , the American military government in Bavaria. The NN were initially printed in Zirndorf, because no printing works could be found in the war-torn Nuremberg. The paper appeared only twice a week in 1945/46, then three times from autumn 1946 to 1949, and from then on four times a week. In addition to Joseph E. Drexel, Heinrich G. Merkel (1900–1985), the publisher of the Würzburg Main-Post , became the second editor and partner of the Nürnberger Nachrichten in 1949 . He took over u. a. the publishing and commercial tasks. In autumn 1949 the publishing house and the editorial team moved to Nuremberg in the rebuilt former NSDAP Gauhaus on Marienplatz. It was not until November 16, 1962 that the NN came out six times a week.

Publishing community of the NN

In July 1959, the publisher and editor Bruno Schnell founded the Nürnberger Nachrichten interest group with six local newspaper publishers in Central Franconia. There are now twelve publishers working with the NN. In this so-called "NN model" or " Nuremberg Model " create the various local newsrooms in northern Bavarian cities their home part and thus contribute according to their circulation area as so-called head sheets different titles such as Erlanger Nachrichten , Franconian country newspaper (Ansbach), Fürth messages or Schwabacher Tagblatt (for a full list, see the Expenses section ). The local publishers take over the general part ( coat ) completely from the NN. The distribution area of the NN thus extends from Pegnitz to Treuchtlingen and from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

Edition

The Nürnberger Nachrichten like most German newspapers in recent years to rest lost. The circulation sold has decreased by an average of 2.2% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 3.9%. It is currently 225,782 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 92.4 percent.
