Udo Kaller

Udo Kaller (born September 5, 1943 in Gliwice ) is a German artist .

Life

After an apprenticeship in lithography, Udo Kaller studied at the academies of fine arts in Munich and Nuremberg. Since 1972 he has been a freelance painter and graphic artist in Nuremberg. Until the 1990s, Kaller created designs for public buildings in Bavaria as part of the art in architecture , z. B. in the state representation of the Free State of Bavaria in Bonn or the penal institutions in Bayreuth and Weiden. This also resulted in 17 large-format tapestries . The artist works mainly in oil on canvas, his work also includes lithographs, screen prints, drawings and majolica .

From 2002 to 2004 Kaller created oil on canvas interpretations of the woodcut series Hundred Famous Views of Edo by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) and showed the 100-part series in solo exhibitions in Erlangen, Berlin, Krakow and Würzburg. Another picture cycle in the tradition of Japonism are Kaller's interpretations of the 36 views of Mount Fuji by Katsushika Hokusai from the years 2008 to 2010. Kaller is a member of the artist group Der Kreis . His works are owned by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bavarian State Painting Collection in Munich, the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the National Museum Krakow, the National Museum Skopje and private collections.
