Bruno Schnell

Bruno Schnell (born February 27, 1929 in Munich ; † January 27, 2018 in Nuremberg ) was a German editor and publisher of the Nürnberger Nachrichten and the Nürnberger Zeitung . Furthermore, he was socially committed as a patron and as a sponsor of art and culture.

family

Schnell's father was a manager in a margarine factory. He was married to Helga Schnell, whose marriage in 1967 resulted in their son Toni Schnell, director of Olympia Verlag , and their two daughters Bärbel Schnell and Sabine Schnell (now Schnell-Pleyer ). The former is head of sales, the latter is a lawyer and legal advisor for Nürnberger Nachrichten and Nürnberger Zeitung. After the father's death both took over his duties as publishers.

Since 1967, when the Franconian Gallery was closed, there was no space for the presentation of regional art in Nuremberg . In 2006, Bruno Schnell sold a listed neo-baroque residential building in the Marienvorstadt to the city of Nuremberg for a symbolic euro . The house originally belonged to the Nürnberger Presse publishing house and, following renovation, has been offering exhibition space for artists from Nuremberg and the region under the name Kunstvilla since May 2014 .

Cultural promotion

After the death of the founder of the Nürnberger Nachrichten, Joseph E. Drexel, Bruno Schnell continued the democratic tradition of the publishing house.
